RESUMEN

Thermoelectric power can convert heat and electricity directly and reversibly. Low-dimensional thermoelectric materials, particularly thin films, have been considered a breakthrough for separating electronic and thermal transport relationships. In this study, a series of Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 thin films with thicknesses of 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, and 1 µm have been fabricated by RF sputtering for the study of thickness effects on thermoelectric properties. We demonstrated that microstructure (texture) changes highly correlate with the growth thickness in the films, and equilibrium annealing significantly improves the thermoelectric performance, resulting in a remarkable enhancement in the thermoelectric performance. Consequently, the 0.5 µm thin films achieve an exceptional power factor of 18.1 µWcm-1K-2 at 400 K. Furthermore, we utilize a novel method that involves exfoliating a nanosized film and cutting with a focused ion beam, enabling precise in-plane thermal conductivity measurements through the 3ω method. We obtain the in-plane thermal conductivity as low as 0.3 Wm-1K-1, leading to a maximum ZT of 1.86, nearing room temperature. Our results provide significant insights into advanced thin-film thermoelectric design and fabrication, boosting high-performance systems.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and preliminary efficacy of YSCH-01 (Recombinant L-IFN adenovirus) in subjects with advanced solid tumors. METHODS: In this single-center, open-label, investigator-initiated trial of YSCH-01, 14 patients with advanced solid tumors were enrolled. The study consisted of two distinct phases: (1) the dose escalation phase and (2) the dose expansion phase; with three dose groups in the dose escalation phase based on dose levels (5.0×109 viral particles (VP)/subject, 5.0×1010 VP/subject, and 5.0×1011 VP/subject). Subjects were administered YSCH-01 injection via intratumoral injections. The safety was assessed using National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events V.5.0, and the efficacy evaluation was performed using Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumor V.1.1. RESULTS: 14 subjects were enrolled in the study, including 9 subjects in the dose escalation phase and 5 subjects in the dose expansion phase. Of the 13 subjects included in the full analysis set, 4 (30.8%) were men and 9 (69.2%) were women. The most common tumor type was lung cancer (38.5%, 5 subjects), followed by breast cancer (23.1%, 3 subjects) and melanoma (23.1%, 3 subjects). During the dose escalation phase, no subject experienced dose-limiting toxicities. The content of recombinant L-IFN adenovirus genome and recombinant L-IFN protein in blood showed no trend of significant intergroup changes. No significant change was observed in interleukin-6 and interferon-gamma. For 11 subjects evaluated for efficacy, the overall response rate with its 95% CI was 27.3% (6.02% to 60.97%) and the disease control rate with its 95% CI was 81.8% (48.22% to 97.72%). The median progression-free survival was 4.97 months, and the median overall survival was 8.62 months. In addition, a tendency of decrease in the sum of the diameters of target lesions was observed. For 13 subjects evaluated for safety, the overall incidence of adverse events (AEs) was 92.3%, the overall incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) was 84.6%, and the overall incidence of >Grade 3 AEs was 7.7%, while no AEs/ADRs leading to death occurred. The most common AEs were fever (69.2%), nausea (30.8%), vomiting (30.8%), and hypophagia (23.1%). CONCLUSIONS: The study shows that YSCH-01 injections were safe and well tolerated and exhibited preliminary efficacy in patients with advanced solid tumors, supporting further investigation to evaluate its efficacy and safety. To clarify the relationship between microorganisms and physicochemical indicators of Xuanwei ham. Six ham samples for the first, second and third year were selected, respectively. The changes of physicochemical properties, the free fatty acids and microbial communities of Xuanwei ham were investigated by GC-MS and high-throughput sequencing technology. Results showed that scores of colour, overall acceptability, texture, taste and aroma were the highest in the third year sample. With increasing ripening time, moisture content, water activity (Aw), lightness (L*), springiness, and resilience decreased continuously, and yellowness (b*) was the highest in the second year sample. 31 free fatty acids were detected, and unsaturated fatty acids such as palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid were the major fatty acids. The content of palmitoleic acid, oleic acid and eicosenoic acid increased significantly during processing. At the phylum level, the dominant bacteria were Proteobacteria and Firmicutes, and fungi were Ascomycota. At the genus level, the dominant bacteria were Staphylococcus and Psychrobacter, and fungi were Aspergillus. Correlation analysis showed that water content and Aw were closely related to microorganisms, and most unsaturated fatty acids were significantly correlated with microorganisms. These findings showed that microorganisms played an important role in the quality of Xuanwei ham, and provided a scientific basis for the quality control of Xuanwei ham.

BACKGROUND: Understanding the association of peripheral inflammation and post-stroke depressive symptomology (PSDS) might provide further insights into the complex etiological mechanism of organic depression. However, studies focusing on the longitudinal patterns of PSDS were limited and it remained unclear whether peripheral inflammation influences the occurrence and development of PSDS. METHODS: A total of 427 prospectively enrolled and followed ischemic stroke patients were included in the analytical sample. Depressive symptomology was assessed on four occasions during 1 year after ischemic stroke. Peripheral inflammatory proteins on admission and repeated measures of peripheral immune markers in three stages were collected. Latent class growth analysis (LCGA) was employed to delineate group-based trajectories of peripheral immune markers and PSDS. Multinomial regression was performed to investigate the association of peripheral inflammation with PSDS trajectories. RESULTS: Four distinct trajectories of PSDS were identified: stable-low (n = 237, 55.5 %), high-remitting (n = 120, 28.1 %), late-onset (n = 44, 10.3 %), and high-persistent (n = 26, 6.1 %) PSDS trajectories. The elevation of peripheral fibrinogen on admission increased the risk of high-persistent PSDS in patients with early high PSDS. Additionally, chronic elevation of innate immune levels might not only increase the risk of high-persistent PSDS in patients with early high PSDS but also increase the risk of late-onset PSDS in patients without early high PSDS. The elevation of adaptive immune levels in the convalescence of ischemic stroke may contribute to the remission of early high PSDS. CONCLUSIONS: Peripheral immunity could influence the development of PSDS, and this influence might have temporal heterogeneity. These results might provide vital clues for the inflammation hypothesis of PSD.

Plants can adapt to environmental changes by adjusting their functional traits and biomass allocation. The size and number of flowers are functional traits related to plant reproduction. Life history theory predicts that there is a trade-off between flower size and number, and the trade-off can potentially explain the adaptability of plants. Elevation gradients in mountains provide a unique opportunity to test how plants will respond to climate change. In this study, we tried to better explain the adaptability of the alpine plant Gentiana lawrencei var. farreri in response to climate change. We measured the flower size and number, individual size, and reproductive allocation of G. lawrencei var. farreri during the flowering period along an elevation gradient from 3200 to 4000 m, and explored their relationships using linear mixed-effect models and the structural equation model. We found that with elevation increasing, individual size and flower number decreased and flower size increased, while reproductive allocation remained unchanged. Individual size positively affected flower number, but was not related to flower size; reproductive allocation positively affected flower size, but was not related to flower number; there is a clear trade-off between flower size and number. We also found that elevation decreased flower number indirectly via directly reducing individual size. In sum, this study suggests that G. lawrencei var. farreri can adapt to alpine environments by the synergies or trade-offs among individual size, reproductive allocation, flower size, and flower number. This study increases our understanding of the adaptation mechanisms of alpine plants to climate change in alpine environments.

Cost-effective and readily accessible 3d transition metals (TMs) have been considered as promising candidates for alkane activation while 3d TMs especially the early TMs are usually not very reactive with light alkanes. In this study, the reactivity of Vn+ and VnO+ (n = 1-9) cluster cations towards ethane under thermal collision conditions has been investigated using mass spectrometry and density functional theory calculations. Among Vn+ (n = 1-9) clusters, only V3-5+ can react with C2H6 to generate dehydrogenation products and the reaction rate constants are below 10-13 cm3 molecule-1 s-1. In contrast, the reaction rate constants for all VnO+ (n = 1-9) with C2H6 significantly increase by about 2-4 orders of magnitude. Theoretical analysis evidences that the addition of ligand O affects the charge distribution of the metal centers, resulting in a significant increase in the cluster reactivity. The analysis of frontier orbitals indicates that the agostic interaction determines the size-dependent reactivity of VnO+ cluster cations. This study provides a novel approach for improving the reactivity of early 3d TMs.

Introduction: Many breast cancer patients suffer from fear of cancer recurrence (FCR). However, effective physical intervention for FCR has been scarce. Previous studies have confirmed that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can help improve patients' anxiety, depression, fear, and stress level. Therefore, this study aims to assess the efficacy of rTMS in the treatment of FCR in breast cancer patients and explore its underlying neural mechanism. Methods and analysis: and analysis: Fifty breast cancer patients with high FCR (FCR total score >27), and fifty age- and gender-matched patients with low FCR (FCR total score <7) will be recruited to participate in this study. Patients in the high FCR group will be randomly assigned to receive 4-week low-frequency rTMS targeting the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (rDLPFC) + treatment as usual (TAU) (n = 25), or to receive sham stimulation + TAU (n = 25). Patients in the low FCR group will only receive TAU. All participants will take a baseline fMRI scan to examine the local activities and interactions of brain activity between the prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), amygdala and hippocampus. Fear of Cancer Recurrence Questionnaire (FCRQ7), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ9), Generalize Anxiety Disorder (GAD7), Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI7) will be used to measure an individual's FCR, depression, anxiety, pain, and insomnia symptoms at week 0 (baseline), week 4 (the end of intervention), week 5 (1 week post-treatment), week 8 (1 month post-treatment), and week 16 (3 months post-treatment). Participants in the high FCR group will receive a post-treatment fMRI scan within 24 h after intervention to explore the neural mechanisms of rTMS treatment. The primary outcome of the study, whether the rTMS intervention is sufficient in relieving FCR in breast cancer patients, is measured by FCRQ7. Additionally, task activation, local activity and functional connectivity of the DLPFC, amygdala and hippocampus will be compared, between high and low FCR group, and before and after treatment. Discussion: Studies have shown that low-frequency rTMS can be used to treat patient's FCR. However, there is a lack of relevant evidence to support the efficacy of rTMS on FCR in cancer patients, and the neural mechanisms underlying the effects of rTMS on FCR need to be further investigated. Ethics and dissemination: Ethical approval for the study has been obtained from the Ethics Committee of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (reference number: KY-N-2022-136-01). The results of the investigation will be published in scientific papers. The data from the investigation will be made available online if necessary. Background: This study aimed to investigate the impact of intrauterine adhesions (IUA) therapy and endometrial receptivity by implanting autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into the Interceed and subsequently placing them in the uterine cavity of rats. Methods: Fifty rats were divided into 5 groups according to the random number table method (10 rats in each group). Following the development of the IUA model through mechanical injury, the animals were categorized into different treatment groups: the IUA model (intrauterine perfusion of saline), Interceed therapy (intrauterine placement of Interceed), BMSCs therapy (intrauterine perfusion of BMSCs), BMSCs + Interceed therapy (intrauterine placement of BMSCs + Interceed), and a control group (intrauterine perfusion of saline). The Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining technique was employed to identify and assess the pathological alterations in the endometrium. Additionally, it facilitated the quantification of endometrial glands and the determination of endometrial thickness. Masson staining was used to detect fibrosis in rat uterus. The number of microvascular density (MVD) was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot were used to detect the levels of leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), integrin ανß3, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in uterine tissue. Male and female rats were combined in cages for reproductive and conception evaluation. Results: In comparison to the control, the number of endometrial glands in the IUA model was significantly reduced, and the degree of endometrial thinning and fibrosis was significantly increased (p < 0.05). Compared with the IUA model, the number of endometrial glands did not exhibit any significant alterations in endometrial thickness and MVD number. The expressions of LIF, integrin ανß3, and VEGF in the uterine tissue were not significantly improved with Interceed therapy, resulting in no significant improvement in the pregnancy rate (p > 0.05). The number of endometrial glands, endometrial thickness, and MVD in the BMSCs therapy group were significantly increased. Moreover, the expressions of LIF, integrin ανß3, and VEGF in uterine tissue exhibited a significant increase, leading to a comparatively higher pregnancy rate (p < 0.05). In the BMSCs + Interceed therapy group, the number of endometrial glands, endometrial thickness, and MVD were significantly increased, and the expressions of LIF, integrin ανß3, and VEGF in uterine tissue were significantly increased as well, along with a corresponding rise in the pregnancy rate (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The intrauterine placement of Interceed combined with BMSCs in IUA rats can thicken the damaged endometrium, increase the number of glands, promote endometrial angiogenesis, improve endometrial receptivity, and increase the rate of pregnancy in IUA rats.

PURPOSE: To determine the prevalence of anxiety and depression in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and to identify central symptoms and bridge symptoms among psychiatric disorders. METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited patients with NPC in Guangzhou, China from May 2022, to October 2022. The General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were used for screening anxiety and depression, respectively. Network analysis was conducted to evaluate the centrality and connectivity of the symptoms of anxiety, depression, quality of life (QoL) and insomnia. RESULTS: A total of 2806 respondents with complete GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores out of 3828 were enrolled. The incidence of anxiety in the whole population was 26.5% (depression, 28.5%; either anxiety or depression, 34.8%). Anxiety was highest at caner diagnosis (34.2%), while depression reached a peak at late-stage radiotherapy (48.5%). Both moderate and severe anxiety and depression were exacerbated during radiotherapy. Coexisting anxiety and depression occurred in 58.3% of those with either anxiety or depression. The generated network showed that anxiety and depression symptoms were closely connected; insomnia was strongly connected with QoL. "Sad mood", "Lack of energy", and "Trouble relaxing" were the most important items in the network. Insomnia was the most significant bridge item that connected symptom groups. CONCLUSION: Patients with NPC are facing alarming disturbances of psychiatric disorders; tailored strategies should be implemented for high-risk patients. Besides, central symptoms (sad mood, lack of energy, and trouble relaxing) and bridge symptoms (insomnia) may be potential interventional targets in future clinical practice.

Particulate matter, represented by soot particles, poses a significant global environmental threat, necessitating efficient control technology. Here, we innovatively designed and elaborately fabricated ordered hierarchical macroporous catalysts of Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 (OM CZO) integrated on a catalyzed diesel particulate filter (CDPF) using the self-assembly method. An oxygen-vacancy-enriched ordered macroporous Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 catalyst (VO-OM CZO) integrated CDPF was synthesized by subsequent NaBH4 reduction. The VO-OM CZO integrated CDPF exhibited a markedly enhanced soot oxidation activity compared to OM CZO and powder CZO coated CDPFs (T50: 430 vs 490 and 545 °C, respectively). The well-defined OM structure of the VO-OM CZO catalysts effectively improves the contact efficiency between soot and the catalysts. Meanwhile, oxygen vacancies trigger the formation of a large amount of highly reactive peroxide species (O22-) from molecular oxygen (O2) through electron abstraction from the three adjacent Ce3+ (3Ce3+ + Vö + O2 → 3Ce4+ + O22-), contributing to the efficient soot oxidation. This work demonstrates the fabrication of the ordered macroporous CZO integrated CDPF and reveals the importance of structure and surface engineering in soot oxidation, which sheds light on the design of highly efficient PM capture and removal devices.

Glioma is a systemic disease that can induce micro and macro alternations of whole brain. Isocitrate dehydrogenase and vascular endothelial growth factor are proven prognostic markers and antiangiogenic therapy targets in glioma. The aim of this study was to determine the ability of whole brain morphologic features and radiomics to predict isocitrate dehydrogenase status and vascular endothelial growth factor expression levels. This study recruited 80 glioma patients with isocitrate dehydrogenase wildtype and high vascular endothelial growth factor expression levels, and 102 patients with isocitrate dehydrogenase mutation and low vascular endothelial growth factor expression levels. Virtual brain grafting, combined with Freesurfer, was used to compute morphologic features including cortical thickness, LGI, and subcortical volume in glioma patient. Radiomics features were extracted from multiregional tumor. Pycaret was used to construct the machine learning pipeline. Among the radiomics models, the whole tumor model achieved the best performance (accuracy 0.80, Area Under the Curve 0.86), while, after incorporating whole brain morphologic features, the model had a superior predictive performance (accuracy 0.82, Area Under the Curve 0.88). The features contributed most in predicting model including the right caudate volume, left middle temporal cortical thickness, first-order statistics, shape, and gray-level cooccurrence matrix. Pycaret, based on morphologic features, combined with radiomics, yielded highest accuracy in predicting isocitrate dehydrogenase mutation and vascular endothelial growth factor levels, indicating that morphologic abnormalities induced by glioma were associated with tumor biology.

BACKGROUND: The variants of nucleoporins are extremely rare in hereditary steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS). Most of the patients carrying such variants progress to end stage kidney disease (ESKD) in their childhood. More clinical and genetic data from these patients are needed to characterize their genotype-phenotype relationships and elucidate the role of nucleoporins in SRNS. METHODS: Four patients of SRNS carrying biallelic variants in the NUP93, NUP107 and NUP160 genes were presented. The clinical and molecular genetic characteristics of these patients were summarized, and relevant literature was reviewed. RESULTS: All four patients in this study were female and initially presented with SRNS. The median age at the onset of the disease was 5.08 years, ranging from 1 to 10.5 years. Among the four patients, three progressed to ESKD at a median age of 7 years, ranging from 1.5 to 10.5 years, while one patient reached stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD3). Kidney biopsies revealed focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in three patients. Biallelic variants were detected in NUP93 in one patient, NUP107 in two patients, as well as NUP160 in one patient respectively. Among these variants, five yielded single amino acid substitutions, one led to nonsense mutation causing premature termination of NUP107 translation, one caused a single nucleotide deletion resulting in frameshift and truncation of NUP107. Furthermore, one splicing donor mutation was observed in NUP160. None of these variants had been reported previously. CONCLUSION: This report indicates that biallelic variants in NUP93, NUP107 and NUP160 can cause severe early-onset SRNS, which rapidly progresses to ESKD. Moreover, these findings expand the spectrum of phenotypes and genotypes and highlight the importance of next-generation sequencing in elucidating the molecular basis of SRNS and allowing rational treatment for affected individuals.

Exercise can induce brain plasticity. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a functional neuroimaging technique that exploits cerebral hemodynamics and has been widely used in the field of sports psychology to reveal the neural mechanisms underlying the effects of exercise. However, most existing fNIRS studies are cross-sectional and do not include exercise interventions. In addition, attributed to differences in experimental designs, the causal relationship between exercise and brain functions remains elusive. Hence, this systematic review aimed to determine the effects of exercise interventions on alterations in brain functional activity in healthy individuals using fNIRS and to determine the applicability of fNIRS in the research design of the effects of various exercise interventions on brain function. Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, CNKI, Wanfang, and Weipu databases were searched for studies published up to June 15, 2021. This study was performed in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Two investigators independently selected articles and extracted relevant information. Disagreements were resolved by discussion with another author. Quality was assessed using the Cochrane risk-of-bias method. Data were pooled using random-effects models. A total of 29 studies were included in the analysis. Our results indicated that exercise interventions alter oxygenated hemoglobin levels in the prefrontal cortex and motor cortex, which are associated with improvements in higher cognitive functions (e.g., inhibitory control and working memory). The frontal cortex and motor cortex may be key regions for exercise-induced promotion of brain health. Future research is warranted on fluctuations in cerebral blood flow during exercise to elucidate the neural mechanism underlying the effects of exercise. Moreover, given that fNIRS is insensitive to motion, this technique is ideally suited for research during exercise interventions. Important factors include the study design, fNIRS device parameters, and exercise protocol. The examination of cerebral blood flow during exercise intervention is a future research direction that has the potential to identify cortical hemodynamic changes and elucidate the relationship between exercise and cognition. Future studies can combine multiple study designs to measure blood flow prior to and after exercise and during exercise in a more in-depth and comprehensive manner.

Due to the comprehensive hepatitis B virus vaccination program in Taiwan since 1986, the development of antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C infection and covered by National health insurance. Besides, the increased prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and currently, approved therapy for NAFLD remain developing. The etiology of liver-related diseases such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma required reinterpretation. This study aimed to analyze the incidence and outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) due to viral (hepatitis B and hepatitis C) infection compared to that of nonviral etiology. We retrospectively analyzed patients with HCC from January 2011 to December 2020 from the cancer registry at our institution. Viral-related hepatitis was defined as hepatitis B surface antigen positivity or anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibody positivity. A total of 2748 patients with HCC were enrolled, of which 2188 had viral-related HCC and 560 had nonviral-related HCC. In viral HCC group, the median age at diagnosis was significantly lower (65 years versus 71 years, p < 0.001), and the prevalence of early-stage HCC, including stage 0 and stage A Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer, was significantly higher (52.9% versus 33.6%, p < 0.001). In nonviral HCC group, alcohol use was more common (39.9% versus 30.1%, p < 0.001), the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was higher (54.5% versus 35.1%, p < 0.001), and obesity was common (25.0% versus 20.5%, p = 0.026). The prevalence of nonviral HCC increased significantly from 19.2 to 19.3% and 23.0% in the last 10 years (p = 0.046). Overall survival was better in the viral HCC group (5.95 years versus 4.00 years, p < 0.001). In the early stage of HCC, overall survival was still better in the viral HCC group (p < 0.001). The prevalence of nonviral HCC has significantly increased in the last ten years. The overall survival was significantly lower in the nonviral HCC, perhaps because the rate of early HCC detection is lower in nonviral HCC and anti-viral therapy. To detect nonviral HCC early, we should evaluate liver fibrosis in high-risk groups (including people with obesity or T2DM with NAFLD/NASH and alcoholic liver disease) and regular follow-up for those with liver fibrosis, regardless of cirrhosis.

The aim of the study was to explore the clinical efficacy of bisphosphonates in patients with osteoporosis in diabetes patients by meta-analysis. Six databases were systematically searched from inception to January 30,2023. Studies evaluating the treatment of diabetic osteoporosis with bisphosphonates were included. Key outcome measures, such as bone mineral density (BMD), bone metabolism markers, pain improvement, and safety assessments, were extracted and analyzed. STATA MP V17.0 was used to calculate the combined effect size. After searching Chinese and English databases, 15 studies met the inclusion criteria of this study. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the BMD of patients with osteoporosis in diabetes increased significantly after bisphosphonate treatment, and the lumbar BMD increased by 0.08 g/cm² (95% CI: 0.05-0.11). Femoral neck BMD increased by 0.06 g/cm² (95% CI: 0.01-0.11); Ward's triangle BMD increased 0.07 g/cm² (95% CI: 0.04-0.09); and trochanter BMD increased by 0.06 g/cm² (95% CI: 0.04-0.08). In addition, bone alkaline phosphatase increased 1.95 µg/l (95% CI: 1.18-2.72), while serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b decreased 1.28 U/l (95% CI: -1.81-0.75). Moreover, improvements in pain were statistically significant. The effects of bisphosphonates on osteocalcin (MD: -0.07; 95% CI: -1.12-1.25), serum calcium (MD: 0.01; 95% CI: -0.03-0.04), serum phosphorus (MD: 0.04; 95% CI: -0.03-0.10) and medication safety (OR: 1.75; 95% CI: 1.29-2.37) were not statistically significant. Bisphosphonates have a significant positive effect on bone mineral density and bone metabolism in patients with osteoporosis in diabetes and have good safety.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the serum inflammatory factors in patients with high-altitude polycythemia (HAPC) and their correlation with cognitive function. The subjects were recruited and placed into a HAPC group and control group. Serum samples were collected, and inflammatory factors (interleukin-1beta [IL-1ß], monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 [MCP-1], and tumor necrosis factor-alpha [TNF-α]) were measured using ELISA kits. The mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) was used to assess cognitive function. According to the MMSE scores, HAPC group was further divided into normal cognitive function group (HNCF) and cognitive dysfunction group (HCDF). In comparison with the control group, the MMSE scores in the HAPC group were significantly low (P < .05), whereas the serum levels of IL-1ß, MCP-1, and TNF-α were significantly high (P < .01). Among the HAPC group (n = 60), 21 belonged to the HCDF and 39 belonged to the HNCF. Compared with the HNCF, the IL-1ß, MCP-1, and TNF-α in the HCDF were significantly increased (P < .01). The Pearson correlation analysis showed that inflammatory factors were positively correlated with hemoglobin, and negatively correlated with MMSE. Serum inflammatory cytokines IL-1, MCP-1, and TNF-α were increased in HAPC, and HAPC exhibited cognitive dysfunction. Considering chronic hypoxia environment influences the change of the red blood cell metabolic and inflammatory factor, red blood cells and inflammatory factor in plateau is likely to be affected by patients with vascular lesions, increase cognitive impairment.

Objective: Accumulating evidence has indicated that neurodevelopmental defects may underlie the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder (BD). Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) are a family of neurotrophic factors that are essential for the survival and development of neurons. The present study aims to investigate whether IGF-2 signaling is implicated in the pathophysiological processes of BD. Method: 50 healthy controls and 78 patients with BD, including 23 patients who diagnosed acute depressive episode and 55 patients who diagnosed acute manic episode, were recruited in this study. The 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) and the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) were used to assess the severity of the depressive and manic symptoms, respectively. The serum IGF-2 level was determined by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for between-group comparisons and spearman analysis was used to analyze correlations. Results: Patients with BD had lower serum IGF-2 levels (66.08 ± 21.22 ng/ml) when compared to healthy controls (88.72 ± 31.55 ng/ml). BD patients were divided into manic episode and depressive episode subgroups. We found that serum IGF-2 levels were reduced in both the mania and depression subgroups (mania: 67.19 ± 21.52 ng/ml, depression: 63.43 ± 20.67 ng/ml; P < 0.001), while no significant difference was observed between two groups (P > 0.05). Spearman correlation analyses revealed that the levels of serum IGF-2 were negatively correlated with the YMRS scores in BD patients (r = -0.522, P < 0.001). Furthermore, IGF-2 was found to be an independent contributor to the severity of symptoms in patients with manic episodes (B = -0.610, t = -5.299, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Lower serum IGF-2 levels were found in BD patients and correlated with the severity of the manic symptoms in these patients during manic episodes. These results suggest that reduced IGF-2 levels might be involved in the pathophysiology of BD, and serum IGF-2 could be a peripheral biomarker for the evaluation of the severity of manic symptoms in BD patients.

Background: Identifying the fundus objective biomarkers for the major depressive disorders (MDD) may help promote mental health. The aim of this study was to evaluate retinal neurovascular changes and further investigate their association with disease severity in MDD. Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted in the hospital enrolled patients with MDD and healthy controls.The retinal neurovascular parameters for all subjects, including vessel density (VD), thickness of ganglion cell complex (GCC) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and optic nerve head (ONH) eg are automatically calculated by the software in optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). The severity of MDD including depressive symptoms, anxiety, cognition, and insomnia was assessed by Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) respectively. Results: This study included 74 MDD patients (n=74 eyes) and 60 healthy controls (HCs) (n=60 eyes). MDD patients showed significantly decreased VD of superficial and deep capillary plexus, thickness of GCC and RNFL, and volume of ONH (all p<0.05) and increased vertical cup-to-disc ratio and global loss volume (GLV) (all p<0.05) compared to HCs. Positive associations were found between HAMD scores and cup area (r=0.30, p=0.035), cup volume (r=0.31, p=0.029), and disc area (r=0.33, p=0.020) as well as ISI scores and RNFL thickness (r=0.34, p=0.047). Conclusion: We found the retinal neurovascular impairment and its association with disease severity in MDD patients. OCTA showed promise as a potential complementary assessment tool for MDD.

To assess the pattern of multiple human papillomavirus infection to predict the type replacement postvaccination. A total of 7372 women aged 18-45y from a phase III trial of an Escherichia coli-produced HPV-16/18 vaccine were analyzed at enrollment visit before vaccination. Hierarchical multilevel logistic regression was used to evaluate HPV vaccine type and nonvaccine-type interactions with age as a covariate. Binary logistic regression was construed to compare multiple infections with single infections to explore the impact of multiple-type infections on the risk of cervical disease. Multiple HPV infections were observed in 25.2% of HPV-positive women and multiple infections were higher than expected by chance. Statistically significant negative associations were observed between HPV16 and 52, HPV18 and HPV51/52/58, HPV31 and HPV39/51/52/53/54/58, HPV33 and HPV52/58, HPV58 and HPV52, HPV6 and HPV 39/51/52/53/54/56/58. Multiple HPV infections increased the risk of CIN2+ and HSIL+, with the ORs of 2.27(95%CI: 1.41, 3.64) and 2.26 (95%CI: 1.29, 3.95) for multiple oncogenic HPV infection separately. However, no significant evidence for the type-type interactions on risk of CIN2+ or HSIL+. There is possibility of type replacement between several pairs of vaccine and nonvaccine HPV type. Multiple HPV infection increased the risk of cervical disease, but coinfection HPV types seem to follow independent disease processes. Continued post-vaccination surveillance for HPV 51/52/58 types and HPV 39/51 types separately was essential after the first and second generation of HPV vaccination implementation in China.
